A Historic Place: The Castle and Its Defensive Walls
The beginnings of Pieskowa Skała Castle date back to the 14th century, when the king Kazimierz Wielki built a defensive castle on the hill - intended to guard the road connecting Kraków with Silesia. At the end of the 14th century, the castle was granted to the Szafraniec family of the Starykoń coat of arms. In the 16th century, the Renaissance reconstruction of Pieskowa Skała Castle began. Its architecture gained an arcaded courtyard adorned with mascarons, modeled on Wawel Castle, as well as an Italian loggia offering a magnificent view of the Maczuga Herkulesa rock formation. The southern bastion, home to the Restaurant today, was added along with the entire defensive system in the 17th century by the castle's new owner, Michał Zebrzydowski.Sustainable Cuisine
Our menu and our practices are part of the broader trend of sustainable consumption. We've embraced a philosophy of keeping our menu short and simple, built around seasonal ingredients in many of our dishes - along with sourcing local products and shortening supply chains.
Countless Tourist Attractions

Less than 8 km away lies Ojców, home to the ruins of the castle built by Kazimierz Wielki, the Ojców National Park Education and Museum Centre, and ponds where the Ojców Trout is farmed (which is where the fish served in our kitchen comes from).
