Pieskowa Skała Castle
Situated on a limestone hill in the Prądnik Valley, it is one of the best-preserved castles on the Trail of the Eagles' Nests. It boasts an arcaded courtyard, Italian-style gardens, and extensive museum collections. An iconic, 25-meter rock formation located in the Prądnik Valley, within Ojców National Park, at the foot of Pieskowa Skała Castle. This formation is the product of thousands of years of karst processes and weathering, which unevenly shaped the limestone bedrock into its characteristic club-like form - wider at the top and narrowing toward the base, often described as looking "upside down."
Ojców National Park (OPN)
Ojców National Park is Poland's smallest national park. Its popularity comes from its magnificent natural and historical attractions, as well as its location in the Jura Krakowsko-Częstochowska, close to Kraków. Its distinctive limestone landscape can be admired while walking through the Prądnik Valley - one of the most picturesque valleys in the region - or while exploring the Jura caves. The most recognizable limestone formations are the Brama Krakowska (Kraków Gate), Rękawica (the Glove), and Maczuga Herkulesa (Hercules's Club).Ojców Trout
A prized regional culinary specialty of the Małopolska region and one of the symbols of Ojców National Park. The key to its exceptional flavor lies in traditional, environmentally friendly farming in the crystal-clear, cold, and well-oxygenated waters of the Młynówka stream (a tributary of the Prądnik). The history of trout farming in Ojców dates back to the 1930s, when the farm was established on land belonging to Princess Ludwika Czartoryska.
Jura Caves
These caves form one of the largest and most important geological formations in Poland, concentrated mainly in the Jura Krakowsko-Częstochowska. They were formed through karst processes - the slow dissolution and erosion of limestone rock by rainwater saturated with carbon dioxide. It's estimated that the Jura region contains more than 1,700 such caves, many richly decorated with stalactites, stalagmites, and other mineral formations. The most famous include Jaskinia Łokietka (Łokietek's Cave), named after King Władysław Łokietek, who once hid there; and Jaskinia Ciemna (Dark Cave), home to an archaeological site - one of the oldest in Poland. Nearby, in the Kraków Valleys Landscape Park, other caves can also be visited, including Jaskinia Nietoperzowa (Bat Cave) and (Jaskinia Wierzchowska Górna) Wierzchowska Górna Cave.Trail of the Eagles’ Nests
The Trail of the Eagles' Nests is one of the most popular tourist routes in Poland. It runs through the Jura Krakowsko-Częstochowska and includes 25 medieval fortresses built by Kazimierz Wielki (Casimir the Great), most of which now survive as picturesque ruins. The only fully preserved castle along the Trail - aside from Wawel and Jasna Góra - is Pieskowa Skała Castle, which, though altered over the centuries, has withstood the storms of history. Every walk along these paths is a unique journey into the past, one best experienced in person.
Sports in OPN
OPN offers more than 46 km of trails for hiking and cross-country running, as well as Nordic walking and cross-country skiing in winter. It's also a wonderful, scenic area for cycling - in season, suburban buses that carry bicycles run directly between Kraków and Ojców.
